Privacy Policy

1. Overview

AutoCodex ("the App") is a vehicle management application for Android. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your rights.

The short version: everything you record about your vehicles stays on your phone. The App requires no account, and we operate no server that stores your data. The limited network requests the App does make are described in full below.

2. Data We Collect

Data you provide

All data you enter into the App — vehicle details, service logs, fuel records, expenses, reminders, and documents — is stored exclusively on your device in a local database. This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to external servers or accessible to us.

Location data

The App accesses your device's GPS when you use the following features:

  • Route Tracker — records speed, distance, and route coordinates in real time while the feature is active.
  • Parking — saves your current location as a parking pin so you can find your car later.
  • Trip Calculator — uses third-party services (Nominatim for geocoding and OSRM for routing) to convert place names into coordinates and calculate driving routes. Only the place names or coordinates you enter are sent to these services; no device identifiers or personal data are included.

All location data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded or shared. Location access requires your explicit permission and is only used while the relevant feature is active. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.

Map imagery

Screens that display a map — the Route Tracker, Parking and the Trip Calculator — download map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org) as you pan and zoom. Like any request to a web server, these requests reveal your IP address and which map area is being displayed, and they are only made while a map is on screen. No account, vehicle data or device identifier is attached to them.

Fuel price data

When you use live fuel prices in the Trip Calculator, the App downloads the European Commission's public Oil Bulletin price file from ec.europa.eu. This is a plain file download. Nothing about you, your vehicle or your trip is sent — the request carries no parameters, only your IP address as with any download.

Crash reports

The App uses Sentry (sentry.io) to collect anonymous crash reports. If the App crashes, a report is automatically sent containing:

  • The error message and stack trace
  • Device model and Android version
  • App version

Crash reports do not include user-entered data such as vehicle information or stored route history. They are used solely to identify and fix bugs. AutoCodex uses Sentry's European data region, so these reports are processed on servers within the EU.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

  • No names, email addresses, or contact information
  • No account registration required
  • No advertising identifiers
  • No usage analytics — we do not track which features you open or how often
  • No data is sold to third parties — ever

4. Data Storage & Security

All your vehicle and maintenance data is stored in a SQLite database in the App's private storage on your device. This storage is sandboxed by Android and inaccessible to other apps. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data. While reasonable technical measures are used, the security of your data also depends on your device's security (such as screen lock and encryption).

Backups. The App can export your data to a single backup file, including any photos and documents you have attached. You choose where that file is saved through your device's own file picker, and you are responsible for it once it leaves the App. Backup files are not encrypted and are not uploaded anywhere by the App.

5. Software Updates

AutoCodex can receive small over-the-air updates — corrections and improvements to the App's own code — without waiting for a full release on Google Play. To do this, the App asks the update service operated by Expo (u.expo.dev) whether a newer version exists.

That request contains only:

  • The operating system and version the App is running on
  • An identifier for the AutoCodex project itself
  • A randomly generated installation token, so the service can return the correct update

No vehicle data, location data, account, email address or advertising identifier is sent, and the token is not linked to you or to any other app on your device. Expo acts as a data processor on our behalf.

This check does not affect offline use: the App never waits for the network at startup, and every feature that works offline continues to work with no connection at all. If an update is found, it is applied the next time the App is opened.

6. In-App Purchases

AutoCodex offers an optional one-time in-app purchase ("Pro") processed entirely by Google Play. We do not collect, store, or transmit any payment information. All billing is handled by Google LLC under their own privacy policy. The Pro status is stored locally on your device. We do not share purchase status with any third party.

7. User Control and Rights

Because all data is stored locally on your device:

  • You have full control over your data
  • You can export a complete copy of your data at any time using the backup feature
  • You can delete all data at any time by uninstalling the App
  • You can restrict access by denying permissions (such as location access)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability. Because we hold no copy of your data, you exercise these rights directly on your device: the data is already in your possession, the backup feature provides portability, and uninstalling the App erases it. For the limited data described in sections 2 and 5 that is processed by others on our behalf, contact us at the address in section 12.

8. Children's Privacy

AutoCodex is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services. This is the complete list of parties the App contacts:

These services may process limited technical data necessary for their functionality, including your IP address, as is the case for any internet request. No advertising identifier, no hardware identifier such as IMEI, MAC address or Android ID, no personal data and no user account is shared with them. The only identifier the App transmits is the random installation token described in section 5, which is not linked to you or to any other app on your device.

10. Future Features

If new features are introduced in the future (such as cloud synchronization or user accounts), this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly, and any such feature will be optional and clearly marked before you use it.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and release an updated version of the App.
